Is it common for senior dogs to have Cushings disease?
Cushing’s disease in dogs (also known as hyperadrenocorticism) is not necessarily what I’d call interesting, but because this syndrome is fairly common in senior dogs (who make up the majority of the patients in my practice), it is critically important to me. And if you have a senior dog, it may be important to you.
How does atypical Cushings disease affect a dog?
Atypical Cushings dogs still exhibit the same symptoms as dogs with regular Cushings Disease, but rather than an overproduction of Cortisol, they experience heightened levels of sex steroids (estradiol, progesterone, aldosterone, etc.).
