What kind of health problems do potbellied pigs have?
The most common health problems in potbellied pigs are respiratory troubles and constipation. Arthritis is one of the most common ailments in potbellied pigs. In pigs, arthritis can be caused by past or present weight issues or lack of exercise, but it can also be the result of the pig’s breeding, age or previous diet.
What happens when a pig stops eating and drinking?
Your pig won’t necessarily vomit as a sign of this infection/illness, but your pig will likely stop eating and drinking, become lethargic and most likely run a fairly high temperature. How can I tell if my pot belly pig is sick?
As with other animals, potbellied pigs (sometimes called pot belly pigs) can’t tell us when they’re sick, so it’s best to try and be aware of signs of pain or illness. As you get to know your pigs, you’ll learn to recognize when they’re feeling good and when they are feeling under the weather.
When to call the vet if a piglet is not eating?
If a pig in these circumstances hasn’t eaten in more than 48 hours OR if this is a piglet and there is no eating or drinking after 24 hours, I would call a vet whether there is a fever or not, just to be on the safe side. Animals can only survive for so many days without eating, but even less without drinking.
When is a pot belly pig is sick?

Is it safe to give a pot belly pig gas?
These drugs are not safe and can kill your pig. The only safe anesthesia to use on a pot belly pig is ISO (Isoflurane Gas). Your pet pig will go under quickly and recover quickly with no after effects.
What happens when a pig does not eat like a pig?
If he does not eat like a pig then something may be wrong. A sick pig also looks sick and will not act normal. Know your pig and his routine. His hair will stand on end like he is cold or when you give your pig a belly rub. If, when standing, his back is hunched and his hind legs are under his body, that is a sick pig.
What’s the average temperature of a pot belly pig?
We did this on our pigs for 34 days straight in January/February of 1999 as part of a larger test and discovered that their average temperature was 99.3 degrees F, far less than what was believed to be normal. The first sign of a sick pig is his loss of appetite. If he does not eat like a pig then something may be wrong.
