Is the lake at Eagle Nest open to the public?
The lake was actually closed to the public but the town is open. I went into all the little shops and enjoyed an afternoon walking around this small town. It has a cute little park where you can take a sandwich or coffee and just kick back if you like. The people there are wonderful.

Are there rainbow trout in Eagle Nest Lake?
Had an awesome time fishing for rainbow trout on Eagle Nest Lake. The lake was turning at the time, but there was no shortage of trout that were biting!! Great place to take the kids for the weekend. Whilst it was nice to stop and stretch our legs whilst driving around the area, for me the lake isn’t worth a special journey.
How to get to Eagle Nest in New Mexico?
Typical touristy-resort type of place (Eagle Nest State Park is located here). But as far as scenery goes, this area is beautiful, more so on two wheels. Be sure to take US64 through Ute Park to Cimarron, through Cimarron Canyon State Park…wonderful bit of blacktop there. This is my second (or third) trip in this area, and won’t be my last. …
