THURSDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2011 BY IFIGHT365
Despite a controversial split decision loss to Quinton Rampage Jackson last November at UFC 123, former light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida (16-2) is looking forward, not back, at his upcoming opponent Randy Couture at UFC 129 in Toronto.
This according to Machida’s manager, Ed Soares, who spoke with MMAWeekly.com recently about his fighters upcoming match with the UFC Hall of Famer.
In the interview, Soares talks about the controversial split decision loss to Jackson, noting that mixed martial arts is still improving as a sport and mistakes will inevitably be made. One thing he is sure of though, is that Machida is focused soley on his upcoming fight with Couture on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
³There¹s gonna be adjustments that are gonna be made to try to perfect the scoring and make it better. We may see in our lifetime, maybe 20 years from now, they may say, ŒMan, off of today’s scoring, Lyoto would have definitely won that fight or such and such definitely would have won that fight. But it¹s definitely a young sport and it’s constantly evolving. I think everybody is doing the best job they can to try and put these things in
order.
I think it’s a great fight. It¹s an honor to fight a guy like Randy Couture. He’s a legend in this sport. Someone like Lyoto, he’s the kind of guy that wants to fight the best. He did feel he won that fight against Rampage, but that’s yesterday, now he’s got to focus on today. The next bout
is Randy Couture.
Machida has lost two in a row and could face expulsion from the UFC should he suffer a third straight defeat at the hands of Couture. He lost to Jackson last November and suffered his first defeat in his rematch with
Mauricio Shogun Rua at UFC 113 in May, losing the title to the fellow Brazilian.

I have read a few good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how much effort you put to create such a excellent informative site.

Lyoto, you are truly an inspiration to not only me, but many other fans around the world. I am glad to see that you are focusing on the future and not looking back.
Everyone has setbacks in their life, however the important thing is to move forward and live life with no regrets.
I have no doubt that you will be Champion again.
And as for Randy Couture…he’s in for a real ‘thrashing.’
The Dragon will be ‘back’ and unleash fury on the ‘Natural.’
Keep up the good work & know that you have many fans who support and love your unique style!..signs of a true mixed martial artist.

A good quote I thought you might like and find relevance to..

Does anybody know why this site has been down for like the last month? I haven’t been able to access it for a long time.

This fight is good for Randy, but not good for Lyoto. Here is why: If Randy wins, it will keep his career alive in the UFC. If he loses, he could consider retirement. At his age, it is not a bad thing to retire.
Now if Lyoto wins, it will not necessarily raise his profile. If he looses, he will be out of the UFC. If he wins by unanimous decision, he’ll get Dana bashing. All in all, not a win-win situation for Lyoto.

Lyoto,
You are always awesome to watch, especially when you let a flurry of punches, kicks, knees etc for those few minutes. You did it at the end with Evans, round 3 with MvS1, and with Rampage. When you do that, it seems as though you were “in the zone,” like a lion who is just done with playing around and going in for the kill…and your opponents are just rag dolls. You can’t go wrong if you do that in every round (at least for me and your fans to experience that jaw-dropping moment).
Randy’s comfort zone is at the cage. That is where he does the dirty boxing. He was teaching that to the hosts of “Human Weapon” on the History Channel a few years ago. Not only did he want to fight you because it would be a good life experience for him , but I think he actually thinks he could “solve” you…againts the cage, where you normally do not do your business. I think you can give him a taste of his own medicine when you push him to the cage, or at least see how you can avoid being stuck there.
A victory (ONLY in dominating AND humiliating fashion) over Randy will be a slap to Dana’s face (Randy is within that poker-playing circle) and sends a message that Randy (although a legend) is really not in your league.
Can’t wait to see the fight!
@Peter, you’re a lyotomachida.net junkie too?
I don’t know why either, and I was disappointed also.
February 10th, 2011 at 6:00 am
This is going to be hard I’m a huge fan of both LYOTO and COUTURE and respect them tremendously. Wish them both the best and I hope that Lyoto comes out on top by unanimous decision without anyone getting injured.
All the best,
AK

Lyoto, you are the best fighter in the ufc just sharpen up your wrestling and make sure you are agressive enough to win the rounds, take something from my fellow Canadian GSP. Win and use your strengths to steal the rounds, don’t take unnecessary risks but make sure you dominate.. Your are and awsome fighter and give me insperation. I want to see you back as Champion.
February 12th, 2011 at 8:13 am
Lyoto’s my favorite UFC fighter hands down. I dont understand how they would ever cut him if hee lost a third time, theyve kept Tito now for how long???
February 12th, 2011 at 6:11 pm
I started watching UFC events because of Lyoto Machida. His style, techniques and background are very Intriguing. I wish him only the best in everything he pursues ! Go LYOTO !
February 13th, 2011 at 11:43 am
First off just want to say im a huge Lyoto Machida fan, i’ve been hearing that if Lyoto loses to couture he’ll get released from the UFC. I find that obsurd, he only lost 2 in a row and one was a split decision loss. Tito Ortiz hasn’t won in 4 years and he’s still getting fights and Keith Jardine had a long leash with the ufc. I just find it crazy that Lyoto getting released after losing 3 in a row is crazy, anyone else find this ridiculous?.
February 13th, 2011 at 2:27 pm
I find it hard to believe that Dana will cut Lyoto if he loses, but it’s obvious that he doesn’t like him and he definitely does not appreciate his brilliance. The problem is, guys like Tito and Jardine are characters and they add to the theatre of the UFC. Dana seems to want to turn UFC into WWE so its no surprise a clown like Tito is still around. Lyoto is humble and respectful and a true martial artist living the budo way. He is not enough of a showman for Dana’a circus.
February 13th, 2011 at 3:27 pm
I was devestated haha! But glad to see it’s back to it’s old ways and being updated, I’m also a lyotomachida.net junkie lol. RE: Lyoto Machida vs Randy Coutoure I see it this way, Randy in his last 3 fights Coleman( Yes he chocked him out but, Coleman was burnt out totally past it and Coutoure was unconvining) Brandon Vera( decision win, got rocked and again a decision in many people’s eyes that he lost and James Toney( with almost zero mma expierence)Anything can happen but there isn’t any way logically that Randy wins, he can clinch with the guy who in my oppinion has the best clinch in the division… Put him against the cage but the problem with that besides LYoto turning him around and putting him against the cage Lyoto has perfect techique knee’s to the body and like Vera did he will rock Randy and JUMP all over randy, He will win this via TKO/KO I can say that with 100% confidence… Yes a crap decision is possible but putting Lyoto against the cage for 3 rounds isn’t solving the puzzle I just don’t see it, he’s going to struggle big time, he’s going to get rocked, he will be dominated by the distance, closing of gaps, countering of Lyoto, Elusivness of Lyoto just all round. I like Randy he’s a pretty intelligent fighter but Lyoto is the best end of! OSS Lyoto! OSS fellow MMA!!!
February 13th, 2011 at 5:44 pm
I find it very interesting that Dana White first offered the Shogun title fight to Ramapage after Rashad pulled out. Is he really the next in line? He declined anyway so Jon Jones could well be the next champ. Will be intersting to see what happens after Lyoto smashes Randy and Rampage beats up on Hammill.

February 14th, 2011 at 4:18 pm
Let’s see Lyoto KO Couture with a front Migari (front kick) like Silva did to Vitor. I’m sure he could pull it off, given that is a meat and potatoes kick in Shotokan!
February 14th, 2011 at 4:32 pm
I couldn’t agree more Jamie, it amazes me how many novice MMA fans are out there. Lyoto wins with poise and patience and he catches slack for it another guy goes in there guns blazing reckless and win or lose he’ll get more chances. I always appreciate when a fighter wins by decision because it shows patience and wit but the majority of fans just want to see sloppy less-skilled fights, unfortunatley Dana White feels the same way. A win is a win as long as its fair and honorable.
February 16th, 2011 at 5:19 am
I am from Canada. Unfortunately I can’t make it too this fight but I know lyoto will win this fight!!!
February 16th, 2011 at 10:19 am
The expectations are the best. We know Randy Couture is a great champion, a guy who helped to build the sport as it is, and it’s a great pleasure to have this fight on my résumé, because I’ll be part of Randy Couture’s history on the sport. He added much to MMA. I believe we can win, we have many weapons. Despite he’s on a certain age, he’s tough and experienced, and he’s been fighting guys like Minotauro, and he did tough fights and he’s tough for anyone.”
“This (his wrestling) is his strong point, but he has evolved a lot along with the sport. As he always competed in high level, he doesn’t do only thing and one thing only. The clinch game may be his strongest weapon, but we’ve noticed many areas he’s good at. He dodges well, he has good takedown.”
Machida then spoke about the upcoming fight between current champion and two-time opponent, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Jon Jones next month, predicting a win for his fellow Brazilian.
“When you enter the cage, specially against a guy like Jones, of course he can win, but I believe Shogun is more prepared and plays harder. Technically, he’s more complete than Jon Jones. He has a good ground game, he’s a good striker, he knows everything. Everybody’s looking at Jon Jones’ side, who’s a young guy, but I don’t agree. He just seems to have an advantage because of his conditioning. Shogun is also young and has conditions to do a great fight. Shogun is more likely to win then Jon Jones

-Lyoto Machida
February 16th, 2011 at 11:34 am
I like the mutual respect Machida and Shogun show each other, despite being big rivaleries. I believe Shogun even said that he thought Machida beat Rampage.
February 16th, 2011 at 4:31 pm
good luck Machida i know you will win the fight.
February 17th, 2011 at 8:29 am
I really like Machida although I see him as being predictable and he refuses to change his karate techniques. I do not mean get rid of them. I mean use different set up techniques like a lead jab rather than left when his opponent attacks. Lyoto needs to fight tourneys again because he is losing his speed and fighting more mixed.
Couture will dominate Lyoto in the clinch. Lyoto used to be faster at recognizing positions that he did not want to be in and take aversive steps. If he ends in the clinch, he is in trouble. Couture has decent hands but is slow and he has predictable footwork. He will however move his head when Lyoto attacks and take him down.
The rule is generally three losses and bye.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:39 am
That’s right Shogun said he thinks Lyoto will win Rampage, then admitted that Lyoto won! Lyoto Machida has a fluid style and believes in his style rightly so…. Cotoure is predictable we know the only options for Randy pulling off a decision by putting and keeeping Lyoto against the cage, It won’t get down like that he will get caught like he did with Brandon Vera a man with not as complete and fluid and talented and tecnical then Lyoto and Lyoto will win….. OSS
February 18th, 2011 at 10:26 pm
MACHIDA! i dnt care wat anyone says ur an amazing fighter stick to ur karate and elusiveness dnt fall into the stupid ufc bull crap about being aggressive u went 16-0 with ur amazing elusive style stick with it and keep tearin em up!
February 21st, 2011 at 3:36 pm
Couture wants to fight Lyoto because he only fights the best! The only way to not get hit is to stay the hell out of the way! It would be stupid to step into a firefight because you want to, the only way to win is to stay alive and keep finding angles till you get that one shot one kill! Oorah! The Dragon will prevail because he sez so!
February 22nd, 2011 at 11:33 am
Lyoto – Good luck, train stay safe, God Bless! We are looking forward to you keeping that Dana’s haggerty mouth shut…
February 23rd, 2011 at 3:29 pm
It is rediculous that Dana would even consider dropping Lyoto from the UFC. He lost to the champ and lost to a once champ by split, and now if he loses to a hall of famer he’s out?? A little bit too high of standards I think especially when there are fighters that aren’t near the caliber and have lost more than three fights and are still in the UFC. All fighters get beat at some point and you have to keep looking foward. Lyoto is hands down the best light heavyweight in the UFC and now that he has lost I think he is going to become stronger mentally and make a comeback. I look foward to Dana eating his words when Machida makes a fool of Couture. Lyoto just needs to be a little more agressive this fight and not let Randy pin him against the cage. Machida4Life!!
February 23rd, 2011 at 4:58 pm
Yeah, how many has Tito lost in row, 5 or 6?
February 23rd, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Yeah if 3 is how many losses it takes then Tito should have been gone a long time ago.. Dana is not being fair at all.. I don’t understand the thoughts of Dana.
February 23rd, 2011 at 8:15 pm
Lyoto, u are my idol fighter. I admire your style and your strength. I am in MMA training here in Detroit,MI and You, my son and the people who doubt me are my inspirations. GoodLuck and Thank You…
February 24th, 2011 at 8:04 am
I will always be your fan Lyoto, muahh..by the way i dunno why i find your lips sexy when you speak lol..
February 24th, 2011 at 2:14 pm
Lyoto, use your Kicking technique against Randy…I think that MMA wrestlers are not accustomed to effective kicking strikes (per recent Silva fight.) And consider moving over to Strikeforce if Dana keeps ditzing you.
February 25th, 2011 at 8:15 pm
It appears that Lyoto is not fighting the best way he can…look at his pride fights and look at his brother’s pride fights…he is capable of much more..maybe going too far out to creat the Machida Karate image. This time don’t hold back!
February 25th, 2011 at 8:47 pm
I let Tito continue fighting so I can have my way with Jenna Jameson, stoopitz! Wouldn’t you?
- Dana
February 26th, 2011 at 11:35 am
Hey Lyoto, here’s an arrow to put in your quiver against Coutre… One knuckle punch to the solar plexis. Best of luck my friend. Karate rocks
February 28th, 2011 at 9:42 am
Hey Lyoto,im a massive fan i have seen all your fights i really like your fighting style i think you have the tools to beat anybody at 205, the Rampage fight was abit frustrating i think the tactics you were using were perfect for a 5 round fight but rampage coming forward all the time gave him the first round never mind im sure you will be awesome against Randy couture you will be too fast for him good Luck
March 2nd, 2011 at 1:56 pm
By the time Lyoto meets Randy it will be almost two years since he had an emphatic victory (Rashad in May 2009). Although he deservedly beat Shogun at 104 it was close and the fifth round was not pretty. I just hope he still has the same fire in his belly to finish Randy and silence Dana and the rest of the haters.
March 5th, 2011 at 11:13 pm
Inspite the setback, I’m still looking forward to your fights. All the best Lyoto Machida.
March 7th, 2011 at 5:04 pm
The Dragon was scared against Rampage and terrified against Rua. He will run from Randy too. What is it with all this running??? He can’t fight and does not belong in the UFC. He will lose and DAna will cut him.
March 7th, 2011 at 9:15 pm
Lyoto, the only loss that we, your fans, honour is the second bout against Rua. We pray that your next win will be even more convincing than the fight with Rampage. We admire your discipline and the finesse of your techniques. That loss have made you a more complete fighter. Nowhere to go now but up. Your fan from the Philippines.
March 7th, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Jamie. Please find another screen name. I don’t want to be associated with your complete ignorance. Lyoto is a great fighter and the best I have seen. I have every confidence that he will be champ at 205 again. You obviously have no appreciation for the very effective strategy of tai sabaki and counter punching. This is not running away and is an indication of great skill, not fear. Lyoto is a great karateka. It’s a shame so many people like you and Dana don’t know enough to appreciate greatness when they see it. Lyoto will take Randy to school.
March 8th, 2011 at 10:43 am
Well Jamie your comments are unacceptable! And your just showing your lack of MMA knockledge, childishness and I bet your not even a Martial Artist So prepahs i’m wrong for saying this because you wouldn’t understand. Lyoto Machida is a counter fighter most of the time, when he foight Shogun he switched to his style and went for the finish, not taking anything away from Shogun it was his night, he is the champion! But Lyoto did not fight HIS fight because of Dana White and people like you he felt he had to show the world ‘why i’m the champion’ hgis style is the most intelligent way to fight inflicting the most and receiving the least! Rein I agree wsith you. And Jamie the true MMA I also 100% agree with you… The reason Lyoto by your admission runs away is because he defends using his legs and not his hands, which is the correct way to do it…. He is constantly avoiding damage, he leaps forward attacks like he did to Rampage and won in my oppinion like he will do to randy and win convincinly! and gets out of range leaving his opponant attacking air! he faints alot to trick his opponant to what they think is a counter then he counters them! He is a fantastic fighter and his style is amazing it made him p4p one of the greatest fighters on the planet! OSS
March 8th, 2011 at 10:43 am
Jamie by the way, I do appreciate the difference between you and the other guy! He isn’t going to change his name though!
March 8th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
I just read an article where Randy is describing exactly how he will fight Lyoto and his stategy: engage him and play the clinch game.
I’m not sure about you guys, but is it wise to broadcast your strategy before a fight? I mean, unless he’s just being deceptive and has a different plan, but isn’t the art of war about hiding you secrets to your enemy? I hope he does try and do what he says, as Lyoto will then be ready for him. And as far as “engaging” Lyoto goes, I’m not sure that is wise thing for an older/slower opponent to do against Lyoto. If anything, Randy should be trying to be more elusive, with Lyoto pushing the action and catching him with his speed/timing.
Thoughts anyone?
March 8th, 2011 at 5:15 pm
What you see is what you get with Randy. He hasn’t changed his fighing style since his 205 championship title. 205 or HW, he has fought with the same technique. The “old dog” is not going to learn new tricks, even if he is ‘trying’ to be deceptive with the game plan. The man can’t carry through with any stand-up game plan, especially against an awesome striker like Lyoto. I think it will be a good fight because at the very least, it will go down in history as a match against 2 legends.
BTW, Rua will get knocked out by Jones!…just my childish stab back at the Rua fans. haa haa
Or maybe, Rua may get lucky again and Jones will slip (like Lyoto did) and plant himself face-up directly under Rua to get himself knocked out.
March 10th, 2011 at 10:00 am
The UFC is alot about $$$. Rua & Machida will each win to set up the Shogun vs. Machida III. This is what Dana wants, I am sure. As far as Lyoto running from his opponents in the cage, this is pure BS. Lyoto, a Karate master, counterpunchs, a very elusive & strategic effect. All of you non-Martial Artists responding, please take some classes & you will learn this…
March 10th, 2011 at 10:58 am
I’m not sure what Randy is doing, I don’t think Lyoto wil lsee it hear is anyway so he’ll be wasting his time, he doesnt even go on twitter that much Lyoto does what he was born to do which is be a fighter and spend time with fans and family. In my oppnion Lyoto is going to destroy Randy, he jsut havent got the standup, the only guys who have remotly troubled Lyoto are the big hitting strikers and even then it was conterversial and Lyoto not fighting his fight. As for Jones vs Rua i disagree Jones is going to get his legs kicked. I see a different shogun, with Lyoto the first time he focused of kicks with emphasis on leg kicks the second time he focused on punches, this time he’ll mix things up leg kicks punches the lot baby he will kill Jones his chicken legs wont be able to take it nor his chin OSS
March 10th, 2011 at 11:18 am
I agree with you Kevin. I have a lot of respect for Shogun, despite the rivalry between him and our man Lyoto. I am a big believer in experience over youthful talent. This isn’t track and field competition where youthful strength and vigor dominates. Fighting is a lot about strategy (which improves with experience), and martial artists generally improve with age, given the nature of the technical development that occurs with dedicated training. Jones might have good cardio (at least I’m assuming he deos) and is big and strong, but technique is just as important….as is experience (which is the “truest form of knowledge!”). OSS!
March 10th, 2011 at 2:21 pm
I would love to see Shogun v Machida III and I think that Lyoto would win convincingly. But I’m not so sure that Dana wants it. If Rashad is fit he will be given a shot before Lyoto. Also, when Rashad pulled out of the Rua fight Dana offered it to Rampage before he offered it to Jones. Jones is only getting a shot because Rampage knew he couldn’t make 205 in such a short time. So Rampage will probably get a shot before Lyoto too. Dana doesn’t like Lyoto and there are more dollars in putting an American up against a Brazilian as opposed to two Brazilians. I’m sad to say it but I think Lyoto will have to wait a while.
March 10th, 2011 at 11:22 pm
I will have to agree with Jamie that Lyoto will not have a shot at the belt for a while, but wouldn’t MS3 be awesome?!
Although I have much respect for Shogun, I also have respect for a young rising superstar like Jones. Not sure if Shogun’s knee(s) will be all that stellar after surgery(which was reported as being worse than initially thought by the surgeons). Experience beats untamed youth but only if it is unbroken or does not get broken in the process. Shogun is broken and Jones is far from untamed.
With that said, I would love to see Machida vs. Jones in the future.
March 11th, 2011 at 10:46 am
How about Silva versus Jones. I always thought Jones’s unorthodox style reminescent of Silva to some degree. I’m sure this fight wouldn’t happen for awhile, but its one I’d be interested in seeing.
And yes, you do have a point with Shogun’s recent knee injury, I actually forgot about that.
Machida and Jones would also be cool too.
I always thought, more for entertainment value, that Rampage and Tito Ortiz would be fun to watch. Not that is going to happen anytime soon. I would just like to see someone like Rampage retire Tito for good, with a solid KO or slam. That’s just my opinion though.
March 11th, 2011 at 4:01 pm
All I want is machida to go in the cage, look confident and knock randy out in 1 round. Lyoto had rampage mounted but didnt go for the ground and pound. PLEASE pound if your in the position machida!
I also think machida is very stong in the clinch. he had shogun down a lot in the 2nd fight and once he got hold of rampage he was down too! one last thing. machida is as good as anderson silva, the only difference i see is anderson seems to try a few different things. karate kicks are awesomely powerful. please use more, side kick, front kicks etc, not just round house kicks. if you read these pages machida i wish you all the luck in the world. and if you leave the ufc there is always strikeforce who have just as good fighters-ish
PS. My verdict – Jon Jones will win due to shoguns injury recovery.
March 11th, 2011 at 4:47 pm
hooman, what you said in your first sentence, I want also. A decisive win would be very beneficial for Lyoto right now. Take Couture out fast and hard….make a statement.
OSS!
March 13th, 2011 at 6:30 am
lOOKING FORWARD TO THIS FIGHT. LYOTO, FIGHT YOUR FIGHT, THE HELL WITH DANA. THE GUY WANTS TO MAKE MMA LOOK LIKE WWE OR WCW. YOU ARE A KARATEKA NEVER FORGET THAT. USE THOSE ELBOWS, KNEES, GRACIOUSLY. LETS GET BACK IN THE HUNT MY FRIEND! GOD BLESS AND SAFE TRAINING.
March 13th, 2011 at 10:14 am
Machida, You are the best in your category! A complete fighter! The Dragon is back and out to kill!Randy Couture is a well respected fighter but You gonna win! Cheers!
March 13th, 2011 at 2:21 pm
Lyoto your my hero ive learned so much from you and have fallowed you since day one I’ve got an identical fighting style as yours not very agressive im 17-0-0 in MMA and its all because of you Lyoto your my hero go out there and reclaim your title id hate to see you get exspelled from UFC
-Yout number 1 fan, Chris Layne
March 14th, 2011 at 9:04 am
The UFC just acquired Strikeforce…& Dana has just stated that “many fighters could switch in the future between organizations”. Dont be surprised if our fighter Lyoto ends up in Strikeforce…could happen if dana keeps ditzing him…
March 15th, 2011 at 12:21 am
LYOTOOOOOO RYYYOOOTOOO MAAACHIDAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MACHIDA FTW !!!
!!!
March 15th, 2011 at 6:39 pm
Woow i just found the perfect website. well im really rooting for machida at this point. i would definitely be pissed at dana for letting machida go although he is one of the best fighters in the organization. GOOO!! MACHIDA!!
March 17th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
Hey man! I’m always gonna be a fan of yours.
I thought you won the jackson fight. He landed grazing punches in the first round and some lame clinch shit…As opposed to the several leg kicks you landed that made him wobble once and one clean head shot I saw. Anyways…You have an amazing style for MMA. The only thing people are doing to you now is cutting off the cage. But the jackson fight showed that its still nearly impossible to hit your head. For what it’s worth you were doing a great job of checking Rua’s kicks in the second fight as well. So you can still evade punches and kicks just fine.
I just think you should throw more punches! In the center of the ring and when people are cutting off the cage and getting you closer to the cage. It will help cement those rounds for sure. Then eventually you’ll get their timing and rape them with your straight left. Thats the only time you really need to block. When your doing your straight left and when your throwing punches to cement the round.
I’m not trying to sound like a retarded coach. Im just trying to help. Your like one of my biggest idols. Not just in fighting but in life. I really pray to god you see this comment lol.
The way you carry yourself and represent a style is magnificent.
Sincerely,
Josh Bridgman (I know my email is retarded lol)
March 20th, 2011 at 2:47 pm
Lyoto Machida will fight Jon Jones…you can count on that…& actually Lyotos alusiveness may be the only thing that could finally take down Jones. Will be a very tough fight for Lyoto to regain his title…but GOOD LUCK!

I would love to see a panel introduced to the UFC whose responsibility it is to rank fighters. This panel would have to be free from Dana’s influence. That way fighters would be given the opportunity for title shot when they deserve it as opposed to whether or not Dana likes them. It would also give the UFC alot more credibility. At the moment it’s a one man show which at times makes it a joke with some of Dana”s decisions. He needs to be put on a leash. Someone needs to keep him in check. The fact that Zuffa now owns Strikeforce is no good for MMA, particularly if Dana is allowed to get his grubby little hands on it.

i cant believe shortly after my comment hear ufc have bought strikeforce. that is bad for mma, not sure how things run in the USA but is this not pretty much a monopoly?
It should help lyoto to mentally be ready to go in the cage and take care of randy, lyoto will have the speed on randy but Oh My God he seems a frustrating clincher to fight against and I’m only watching the fight!
i get that dana white is pandering to US audiences hence the OVER promotion of jon jones who beat rua as i predicted he or anyone else could after his comeback from injury. Got to hand it to him, Jones won the fight but you could see holes in his game away from the wrestling that the likes of Machida can take advantage of given the chance

I think jones will dominate until he meets lyoto. Just like Machida did with Rashad he will takes bones to school.

I remember Lyoto took Rua down at will for the second fight, but he could not do anything to follow up. Machida needs to work on the wrestling because, this is were Rua got into trouble with Jones (and got tired/gassed as a result). Once on the ground, Jones can suck the energy out of every fighter. I think with lots of preparation, I think Machida could be a good matchup.

machida will definitely win this fight..

I can’t help but wonder if Lyoto was just a little bit happy that Rua face looked worse than Lyoto’s after his lose to Rua. Not sure how Lyoto would match up against Jones. Jones looked very well rounded. There were times when he looked like Machida transitioning in and out of southpaw. I would like to see Jones vs. A. Silva that would be very interesting.

I think Machida has the skills to pick someone like Jones apart. He would find the holes that people are seeing in Jones’s stand-up, and with Lyoto’s evasive movement would gas Jones out by round 3, and then turn the heat up on him. That’s just my humble opinion, biased although it may be!

well its almost here keep training hard and get the win Lyoto.your still my fav fighter.

Well, I think that Machida vs. Jones is at least 2 fights away for Lyoto. After Lyoto beats Randy, he will probably need to fight 1 more fighter before getting another chance at the Belt. But, again…I beleive that Lyotos elusiveness is the only thing that may be able to finally beat Jon Jones. But it would be a tough fight & Lyotos got to win first. I agree also that if he uses some of the basic Karate techniques…like a front snap kick or spinning-back kicks, he couldgive Jones a taste of his own medicine. Jones learned these techniques from U Tube…Lyoto through years of training…

essa vai ser moleza para o lyoto, é só questão de tempo até pegar o jones, é o único que poderá! Ele é um enxadrista do ufc! Thats gonna be easy to lyoto, is just a question of time until he get the jones, its the only that can beat! Hes like a chessman of ufc

I have been reading a number of comments on other sites and the general consensus seems to be that Jones will be champ for a long time and that no-one can beat him. Alot have even suggested that his only challenge will be if the Spider moves up to LHW or Jones himself moves up to heavyweight. I can’t believe this, Jones hasn’t even defended yet. All this may have been true if it wasn’t for the Dragon. Lyoto will confuse him and finish him. Let’s not talk about the Jones Era when the Dragon Era is only just beginning.

Jones is currently riding the hype with dana white fanning the publicity as he is the only “american” champ of note in the UFC right now, the rest are brazilian, canadian or mexican or light weights haha. This is the hardest weightclass to keep the title. Everyone saying that Rua gassed because of Jones’s wrestling may have a point but you have to take into account he has just come back from injury. I would guarantee a different fight when Rua is back to full fitness. I think Rashad will beat Jones. Jones has the physical attributes to be a beast but he had so many clean strikes on Rua but couldnt finish until Rua couldnt move from gassing. I agree that if (i hope) machida beats randy he needs to beat 1 or 2 more fighters. Good luck!!

Rampage clearly won all three rounds, but his performance was average at best.
