to fight one must have strength:50% physical AND 50% mental and u obviously have both…many fighters don’t have this, shogun will up his game plan, but u will up yours with what you’ve taken from that fight, he found an opening in this fight, which was your legs…he knew he couldn’t hit u with his fists, so he had to find some other way to attack and that was your legs…try and dominate shogun’s legs this time.mentally, shogun is not up to par, but u are; use this to your advantage! good luck and God bless in your next fight!
What i saw was that you sometimes stroke Shogun strong, but he is like Matt Sera, he will never be rung, and finishing him will be always difficult. This is not the only way to win a UFC figth, even if it’s a very honorable. others ways : wound him enough that referee will stop ( as Georges Saint Pierre does with Matt Sera ); submit him. Usually, you finish wave of punches with a high kick, Shogun defends with his arms, so if you do high kick each time he tried to reverse you, back to the rope, one good kick ( maybe midle) should be enough (need only one). A chance that legs protections are not authorized, even Shogun wouldn’t definitely win. You’re the best. Does the fighting spirit be with you.
I have watched the fight several times, and I am a big fan. I would have to agree the opinion of the fight was swayed by the announcing as well. I have watched the fight without sound and it makes a difference. Did you take more damage than in past yes. Does that mean you lost the fight no. Train Hard and prove all the doubters wrong. Shogun won the fight and it sucks that Lyoto got the decision. I like both fighters so I didn’t care who won and it was pretty clear that Shogun was robbed. If Lyoto had any integrity, he would have given the belt of Shogun and asked for a rematch.

I checked every single strike from both, everyone’s opportunities to finish the fight and i gave all 5 rounds to Machida.
All they say is, Machida’s lip was busted.

I think the blow to the Lyoto’s temple was the shot that decided the match. Nothing new learned here, others have pointed out that Lyoto’s gaurd allowed for such opportunities given the correct distance. Rau found his distance and capitialized with agressive punching.
I still believe Lyoto is the better fighter pound for pound. This is just another opportunity for Lyoto to become an even better fighter.
Lyoto has strong spirit. You have to lose to become better sometimes. If Lyoto wants, he’ll make a comeback and take the title again and be an even a greater fighter.
Rua proved to be better in both fights and I believe Lyoto will be back stronger. All the greats lost at some point, also Shogun, and they came back stronger.

Like I said, Lyoto will be back. I don’t have anything negative to say about Shogun. He’s a great fighter, but Lyoto has more going for him in my opinion. Lyoto is a “pioneer” for a full karate style in MMA. Like all arts in MMA, they need fine tuning and evolution. It was a great run already. Lyoto just might be the one that triggers the real evolution of karate in MMA, so a loss is just part of that evolution. Go Lyoto!!!
I don’t know what everybody thinks about the last lyotto machida fight but he did not perform like he always does. i don’t know what happend to him but in my eyes he let shogun win. he took shogun 2 times to the ground and he did not throw punches aggresively like he always does. the 2nd time he didn’t do anything on the ground and he was on top. something happend to machida in that fight and i don’t know. machida is a great fighter and all his fights i’ve seen him fight so agressive and his oponents did not had a chance. machida was not himself during that fight.. since the fight started i’ve noticed something was not right.. he was not fighting like he always does.. in my eyes machida is far a better fighter then shogun. and i know he will come back and take the belt back.. but i feel for him. i wanted him to stay undefeated .

Edward Coffee. While I agree the style is perhaps boring. Intellegent fighting isn’t always exciting. I remember in the early UFC days when Royce Gracie spend most of the fight comfortably controlling the fight from the gaurd it wasn’t exciting either. That’s what elusive strategy is avoiding your opponent from inflicting damage.
This fight was very close in my eyes, and I do believe Machida won. I don’t see why people think Shogun should’ve won, he kicked Lyoto constantly in the leg so it was hard for Lyoto to attack. Lyoto had more Body and Head shots than Rua did.
Then in #2, Lyoto was definately winning the fight, but unfortunately got clipped on the temple and I’d say blacked out. But you were still winning that fight, most fighters have been knocked out.
I watched the fight over and over and it was clear Lyoto won. He had more technique than Rua. All Rua did was throw leg kicks, which did do some damage on Machida, but not enough to take him down or limit his movement. I think most people are outrages because of the one-sided commentary team. They should have been recognising Machida’s counter attacks. All in all it was a close fight, won by the original Champion: LYOTO “THE DRAGON” MACHIDA!

Lyoto,admiro seu estilo dentro e fora da arena, só não acho legal sua preocupação excessiva com os fãs e com o aspecto comercial q sua carreira está tendo. Acho q estas coisas atrapalham sua concentração. Aliás, tive a ligeira impressão q Maurício Rua preparou-se com mais cuidado para a luta.Parace q estava mais concentrado. Digo isto com a autoridade de quem torceu por vc, apesar de também ser fã do Shogun. Mas quem assiste a luta não tem idéia do q é estar no octógono, sei disso. Espero vê-lo ainda melhor na revanche. Concordo perfeitamente com o Carlos Nogueira. Essa é a hora de esquecer todo o ambiente de marketing e se concentrar. Nada de autógrafos, fotos, comerciais e o blá-blá-blá da mídia. É sempre bom lembrar que a vida imita o cinema e digo isso porque, enquanto Rocky Balboa (Rocky III) treinava o seu marketing, o desafiante Clubber Lang treinava sem parar… e olhe no que deu. Por isso, essa revanche é sua. Mostre que o Dragão ainda é o campeão.

I have watched the fight many many times, and still have no idea where did people get the idea that Shogun had won…
I checked every single strike from both, everyone’s opportunities to finish the fight and i gave all 5 rounds to Machida.
All they say is, Machida’s lip was busted.
Come on… we all have seen really bloody and busted up fighters knock the opponent out, or submit him and make him tap…
So. lets be neutral and watch the fight closely…
Machida won fair and square.
And i’m 100% sure he will win the rematch, and wont leave it to the judges…

Shogun didn’t earn his title shot and doesn’t deserve a rematch. Lyoto needs to crush him with the power of the burning dragon if a rematch occurs,anytime we have a decision it always leads to speculation.Submission ,ref stoppage ,ko or tko will leave no doubt in anyones mind. Lyoto, stop leaving fights in the hands of the Judges.!!!! you are the LHW champion, now act like it and KO your opponents. Stop leaving fights to decision, not good for a Champion record. I think the Shogun and Machida fight should of been a draw, but thats just my opinion…Shohun did do enough to hurt you and You did enough to scare him. No one was really hurt. You are both warriors! But this rematch show the world you will not leave it in the hands of the judges!!!! break that habit. BE THE DRAGON

penso nos aspectos positivos dessa luta:
primeiro a pressao de ser invicto é terrivel pois ela tira algo de espontaneidade.
Depois, uma licao para nos brasileiros. Entre brasileiros os principios desaparecem e a beleza vira marasmo. O lyoto samurai desapareceu pelo lyoto tabajara. Meu caro, continuo sendo teu fã e tenho certeza que vc vai fazer muito melhor no futuro do que tudo o que ja fez no passado.

I think the blow to the Lyoto’s temple was the shot that decided the match. Nothing new learned here, others have pointed out that Lyoto’s gaurd allowed for such opportunities given the correct distance. Rau found his distance and capitialized with agressive punching.
I still believe Lyoto is the better fighter pound for pound. This is just another opportunity for Lyoto to become an even better fighter.

Rua proved to be better in both fights and I believe Lyoto will be back stronger. All the greats lost at some point, also Shogun, and they came back stronger.

Like I said, Lyoto will be back. I don’t have anything negative to say about Shogun. He’s a great fighter, but Lyoto has more going for him in my opinion. Lyoto is a “pioneer” for a full karate style in MMA. Like all arts in MMA, they need fine tuning and evolution. It was a great run already. Lyoto just might be the one that triggers the real evolution of karate in MMA, so a loss is just part of that evolution. Go Lyoto!!!

I don’t know what everybody thinks about the last lyotto machida fight but he did not perform like he always does. i don’t know what happend to him but in my eyes he let shogun win. he took shogun 2 times to the ground and he did not throw punches aggresively like he always does. the 2nd time he didn’t do anything on the ground and he was on top. something happend to machida in that fight and i don’t know. machida is a great fighter and all his fights i’ve seen him fight so agressive and his oponents did not had a chance. machida was not himself during that fight.. since the fight started i’ve noticed something was not right.. he was not fighting like he always does.. in my eyes machida is far a better fighter then shogun. and i know he will come back and take the belt back.. but i feel for him. i wanted him to stay undefeated .

Edward Coffee. While I agree the style is perhaps boring. Intellegent fighting isn’t always exciting. I remember in the early UFC days when Royce Gracie spend most of the fight comfortably controlling the fight from the gaurd it wasn’t exciting either. That’s what elusive strategy is avoiding your opponent from inflicting damage.

This fight was very close in my eyes, and I do believe Machida won. I don’t see why people think Shogun should’ve won, he kicked Lyoto constantly in the leg so it was hard for Lyoto to attack. Lyoto had more Body and Head shots than Rua did.
Then in #2, Lyoto was definately winning the fight, but unfortunately got clipped on the temple and I’d say blacked out. But you were still winning that fight, most fighters have been knocked out.
But good job Lyoto.

Before Lyoto got hit in the temple, Lyoto was slightly leading with knees and elbow and the take downs…
This is just like a Ice Man vs The Natural fight where the heavy hitter catches his opponent with one crucial blow…
Shogun is also a good fighter otherwise Lyoto would have just dominated the fight….

I watched the fight over and over and it was clear Lyoto won. He had more technique than Rua. All Rua did was throw leg kicks, which did do some damage on Machida, but not enough to take him down or limit his movement. I think most people are outrages because of the one-sided commentary team. They should have been recognising Machida’s counter attacks. All in all it was a close fight, won by the original Champion: LYOTO “THE DRAGON” MACHIDA!
